BIOGRAPHY
Gilbert is a Senior Partner at LX Legal, with nearly 30 years of experience in corporate law, M&A, financial services, and complex commercial litigation.
He has represented clients in high-stakes transactions and disputes before the Supreme Court and worked for international institutions such Merrill Lynch (USA), Arthur Andersen, Ernst & Young, and Appleby.
Gilbert has been an adviser to the Minister of Financial Services, contributed to key legislation in company and financial law. He participated in the preparation, drafting and development of relevant legislation in relation to company law, financial services, collective investments, insolvency, trusts, insurance, banking and AML/CFT framework.
He has lectured in Company Law to prospective attorneys, barristers and notaries at the Council of Vocational and Legal Education.
Gilbert has been a board member of the Mauritius Law Reform Commission wherein he has chaired the advisory committee on financial services. He has been a member of the first National Committee on Corporate Governance. Gilbert has been on the drafting committee for the latest Insolvency legislation that provided for a framework for cross-border insolvency.
He is the founder member of the International Fiscal Association (Mauritius chapter), a member of INSOL and was a board member and Secretary of the Mauritius Law Society.
